SaveGameBackup Editor's Review

An important part of the gaming experience ever since the first computer games is saving a player’s progress and ensure that the player will continue the game from the last moment he saved the game progress. Depending on the game, when it was developed and by who, the game saves are most often stored in My Documents, game folder or other location. Well, in case you want to reinstall your operating system (or move to a new computer), you needs to back up those game saves by copying the relevant folder (and files) to another location and when needed, restore them back. Easy to say, harder to do - especially when you have several games installed. As a great solution to easily backup and restore a large collection of games, I've found a tool: SaveGameBackup.

When you enter into the application’s main menu, you'll see three important tabs: the backup tab, the restore tab and the options tab. The Backup tab allows you to backup your games' progress. SaveGameBackup will detect and list down all the games that you're having installed (and supported by the app). To create a backup for a game(s), select a location for the backup (using the browse button), select one of the listed games(s) and click the backup button. To restore a backup, you will have to go into the Restore tab and load the saved backup file from the backup folder. The third tab (the option tab) is to exclude a certain game from the list. This can be done using the Asset Ignore List. Just select the game that you want to add to ignore list and click the Move button on the left hand side menu.

SaveGameBackup supports a big number of games, however, there might be games that are not detected. That's why the producer added the possibility to add games that are not yet officially supported through the Custom Asset Support button in the Options tab.

Pluses: detects Steam games; portable; you can add games that are not supported; ignore list;

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: This is very useful tool to backup and restore saved game progress.
